MEDIAISTANA.COM — WEST JAKARTA — The Tambora Police Tiger Team has uncovered a case of aggravated motor vehicle theft involving a Daihatsu Gran Max pickup truck in the Pekojan area of Tambora, West Jakarta. Police arrested the main suspect, identified by the initials S, who is known to be a three-time recidivist in similar criminal cases.
Head of Criminal Investigation at the Tambora Police, West Jakarta Metro Police, AKP Sudrajat Djumantara, accompanied by Criminal Investigation Unit officer Ipda Priyo Purnomo, said the theft occurred in the early hours of July 12, 2026. At the time, S and three accomplices allegedly arrived at the location and drove away a Daihatsu Gran Max.
“The suspects arrived as a group of four and managed to take the Gran Max,” Sudrajat told reporters during a doorstop interview on Thursday (September 3, 2026).
Police subsequently identified the four suspects and launched a pursuit that led officers to Indramayu, West Java. During the initial pursuit, officers managed to secure a vehicle allegedly used by the suspects to carry out the crime.
Approximately one month later, on August 24, 2026, the Tambora Police Tiger Team, together with the West Jakarta Metro Police, arrested S at his parents’ house in Indramayu.
When officers attempted to arrest him, S reportedly tried to escape through the back of the house. However, his attempt was foiled by the Tiger Team.
“S initially tried to flee toward the back of the house, but the Tiger Team managed to apprehend him,” Sudrajat explained.
Based on the investigation, S was found to be a three-time recidivist involved in similar crimes. Police also suspect that S had carried out the theft of pickup trucks on at least four occasions in Jakarta.
“So far, the method used involved COD transactions in the Tanjung Priok area,” Sudrajat said.
During the arrest, police confiscated one letter-T wrench and six key bits, which are suspected of having been used in the theft. Police said the stolen vehicle was allegedly sold to a suspected fence for approximately Rp13 million. The proceeds were then divided among the four suspects.
“The motive was to meet their daily living needs,” Sudrajat said.
Regarding the stolen vehicle, police said they had identified the suspected fence and were continuing to develop the investigation in an effort to uncover the wider network.
Meanwhile, the three other suspects remain at large and are currently being pursued by police.
“The other three suspects are still being pursued, and the investigation is ongoing,” Sudrajat concluded.
For his alleged actions, S has been charged under Article 477 concerning aggravated theft (curat). The investigation remains ongoing, including efforts to locate the suspected fence, arrest the three other suspects, and determine whether S was involved in other pickup truck thefts across Jakarta.
